Of writing not life geez we just got here. To me, writing is cathartic. It gets thoughts out of my brain and claws me out of what I call the ratrace. You know, the anxious spiral of half-finished ideas and no conclusions, they suck so...writing is very valuable to me. Over the past 5 years or so, I have worked my way through
several journals, filling them with everything from poems to bulleted rants. The process of pen on paper itself is so symbolic and meaningful to me. For example, I like to write my more artistic whims in pencil first, so I can clean them up before "inking" them. Once I ink them, it's like I have left all on the page. It is no longer the responsibility of my mind to remember every nuance of the topic. Such a relief.
Now let's be clear. This writing is not the essay kind. My journal is for strings of consciousness, not arguments. My essays are far more formulaic and far less vulnerable, but I do still see them

as their own art. Over the years, my academic writing has gotten more fun as I got better at conveying ideas onto paper. So yeah, perhaps I do consider myself a writer, but more so an artist. I just use writing as my medium from time to time. My gray book--what I call my current journal--is also littered with drawings and even various pressed goods that are pictured around this very website.
I guess this is all a convoluted way of saying be prepared for unnecessary fancy words and poetry. I like making my thoughts pretty alright! Writing helps me figure it out. And although I do not plan on figuring it all out today, I will try and share at least some of my findings.
Bye tty soon,
Jordan

This is a really interesting take on writing as a whole! I agree with you on how academic essays take the personality out of the writing, and for me, that takes all the fun out of it. Journaling is something I have never considered doing, but it seems to be an amazing outlet for you, so I'll see if it works for me. Thanks for sharing
I also love to journal and find it extremely cathartic and helpful through my writing process! I think deformalizing writing is the best way to improve formal writing. I love how you almost used the idea of a "warning" of your unnecessary words and poetry as an introduction to your style! Using sketches alongside your writing will definitely help with your multimedia compositions in the future.
I think it is great that you write so much and it is something I envy. I also love how you don't complain about writing academic papers because your not afraid to put your own personality into everything. Keeping a journal is a great way to keep your writing fresh and makes it more fun. Do you feel like drawing helps paint the path for writing? I always feel the need to havea visual picture before I put the pen to the paper.
